Hearing aircraft flying overhead while I'm at work is not unusual. The Athens airport isn't that far away, especially as the crow flies. But on this beautiful Friday afternoon, the noises from overhead sounded much more intense than the typical air traffic normally heard.

I headed outside with a camera to try my luck at getting a few good pics, starting with the sun setting behind the shop.

I moved out to the center of the parking lot and got another nice shot.

Then I heard the noise again !

I spotted these two aircraft flying past in formation.

I have no idea what these planes are. But I think I know why they were in town.

I believe they were in town for a flyover for the UGA/Notre Dame football game scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

With the long 250 mm lens attached, I tried my best to zoom in.

The results were much better than I expected.

This series of 16 photos of these two jets was taken at the 250 mm end of the lens. But thanks to the large sensor in the new camera, the pics are of decent quality even when cropped to this extent.

I stayed with the until they flew behind the trees.

I hear more noise a few minutes later and spotted the jets flying past again.

This time, I managed to capture a nearby bird in the shot as well.

I took another picture of the sun setting behind the building.

More noises off in the distance.

It looked like they were quite a ways away from me, further than in previous pics.

Nonetheless, I started shooting.

I couldn't capture a lot of detail. But what I did get was of decent quality.

A few minutes later, they flew past again in this same location.

They seemed quite far away. But the pics aren't too bad when cropped.

The fact that they were spaced apart makes it harder to crop the picture with any detail.

The photo above shows the limit of much I could crop the picture and still have both of the jets in the shot.
