A customer brought his van to us because he was having to add coolant on several occasions. A coolant issue on a Ford van with a 6.0L diesel has the potential to be a nightmare. Fortunately, this issue was much less complicated.
I pressure tested the cooling system and found coolant dripping from one of the heater hose fittings.
This fitting is on the right side of the engine.
It was a tight fit for my hand. But it was accessible.
It looked like coolant was leaking from the hose where it attaches to the metal pipe.
It looked like coolant was leaking from the hose.
But zooming in on the area, there was enough corrosion present where the bracket is tack welded onto the metal pipe to make me wonder if the leak was coming from the metal.
In order to make sure the metal pipe was ok, I cleaned the area and added a second hose clamp to the hose.
