A broken exterior mirror is something that happens on occasion. It seems to be part of the nature of fleet duty. On this day, a Ford Econoline van arrived at the shop for a broken driver's door mirror concern.

In this case, only the mirror glass was broken, (the rest of the assembly was fine). Ford actually sells the mirror glass separately specifically for cases like this. It's a much cheaper alternative to replacing the whole mirror assembly.

It's easy to think that ordering a replacement would be a relatively uncomplicated endeavor. But that's not always the case, especially in the case of trucks and vans where many different types and styles of mirrors are available.

I've found it easiest to take pictures of the mirror and send them to Parts Manager David so he knows what to order. The replacement glass for this mirror arrived a few days later.
