I was finishing my paperwork on this evening at work when I happened to walk around to the front of the building to the fuel island and was greeted by an unusual visitor.
Naturally, the first thing I did was run to my car to get my camera.
I know absolutely nothing about snakes.
However, this guy seemed pretty big.
I figure he was trying to get fuel for his state vehicle, but forgot to bring his UGA ID card.
While I don't think he particularly enjoyed me taking a bunch of pictures, he didn't seem to object, which is good.
He let me get reasonably close.
The zoom lens on the camera got me in close enough for some good pics.
He didn't move very much as I tried to inch my way in a bit closer, but just stared at me the whole time.
The general consensus is that this is some kind of black rat snake.
He is intimidating looking, but harmless to humans.
And from what I read, this is a great snake to have around because he would keep the rodent population under control.
I suggested that we build him a condo in the back near Sanitation to try and encourage him to stick around for a while.
Ultimately, he didn't like that idea and disappeared shortly thereafter.
