A Ford F250 pickup truck arrived at the shop today with the driver indicating he was hearing an unusual noise in the front end. I pulled the truck into my bay to see what was happening. It didn't take long for me to discover the problem.
ThisconcernwasbeingcausedbyabrokenRFcoilspring.
At some point, the coil spring broke and fell into itself.
The individual coils were now touching each other.
I tried to get a picture of the problem area with no success. The camera wanted to focus on the frame next to the spring.
This time, the camera focused on the brake hose. At least I could read the spring code tag.
Then I noticed this guy hanging out on my lift under the front of the truck.
I think he did it !
I'm going to blame this on him !
I removed the RF wheel to get a better look a at the damage.
This made it easier to take pics. This time, the camera focused on the spring, but not in the area where I wanted.
There we go !
Judging by the rust, I would say that this coil spring had been cracked for a while. At some point, it threw in the towel and broke.
I ordered a replacement and installed it a few days later.
