  • On this day, I had to replace the instrument panel wiring harness on a 2008 F250 pickup.  The first step in the process was to remove the instrument panel from the truck so I could access the harness.

  • Wiring harnesses on the modern automobile are extremely large and complex thanks to the number of on-board computerized system components.The photo above looks at the right hand side of the instrument panel where the passenger's air bag sits.  The wiring harness in question encompasses all of the exposed wires seen in the photo.

  • With the wiring harness being quite physically large and containing multiple branches, I figured the best way to make sure I get everything back where it belongs was to take pictures of the old harness before I removed it from the instrument panel.

  • So I took pics of each section of the harness.  The photo above shows the center of the dash where the radio and HVAC controls sit.  The additional connectors are for things like power points and additional component switches.
