April 6: Hornets Nest Region AACA show . . .
Read MoreThe sign displayed with the car detailed its unique history. The car's original owner was an aspiring actress named LeClair Vinson. A young assistant film director named Henry Hathaway gave the car to "Doll" as a pre-engagement gift. Vinson and Hathaway were in love, so much so that he had the car painted Emerald Green to match the color of her eyes. She thought about his proposal for a couple of weeks, but turned him down so she could pursue her film career.
Vinson continued her career in Hollywood mainly as an extra or stand-in performer, but never became a featured star. Hathaway went on to become a renown director with 67 films to his credit featuring names like Randolph Scott, Mae West, Gary Cooper, Marilyn Monroe, and John Wayne.
The car remained in the Vinson family for many years. Vinson's son, Perry Chapman, inherited the car after her passing and had started to restore it. Chapman eventually relocated to Virginia and contacted Model A specialist Mike McIntosh to finish the project. McIntosh was later able to purchase the show-winning car.
