April 6: A wonderful Saturday afternoon . . .
Read MoreThe 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary was one of those cars that a lot of people bought and promptly put away into storage. Beginning around the turn of the millennium, these cars shot up in value. Case in point, this car was for sale for $34,900. Original fresh-out-of-storage cars with practically no miles on the odometer can cost much more.
Instead, this car is equipped with the RPO L80 403 CID Oldsmobile V8. Since it's not a W72 car, the decal on the Shaker hood scoop says "6.6 Litre." Looking at the front of the engine, the oil fill cap can be seen in front of the air cleaner to the left of the alternator which identifies it as the Olds V8.
Pontiac T-Tops were available from two different suppliers - Hurst and Fisher. The "Hurst Hatch" cars carried RPO Y82 and Fisher cars carried RPO Y84. The biggest difference between the two is the size of the glass panels. Hurst Hatch panels are smaller have about 12 inches of roof between them. Fisher T-Tops are almost 5 inches wider, so there is less roof in between the panels. It's hard to see in this blurry picture. But this car is a Y82 Hurst Hatch car.
