I left the Twinstunts show and headed across the track to the grandstands along the front straight. With the weather improving, this seemed like a good time to break out the long lens and see what I could see.
The Kids in America, an '80s cover band, had resumed their set after the lightning temporarily forced them off the stage earlier.
As an '80s cover band, they were playing a lot of music I recognize from my high school days.
The cheerleading pom-pom seen in the photos above and below were featured during their rendition of Toni Basil's "Mickey."
Oh Mickey, you're so fine. You're so fine, you blow my mind. Hey Mickey ! I remember it well.
I started zooming in on some of the Car Clubs areas. The lousy weather had kept a lot of people away. But there were a few dedicated individuals there. Clubs at this end of the track include the Queen City Corvair Club, the Harrisburg Cruisers, and the East Coast Reattas.
Parked over the wall from the East Coast Cruisers was the Cadillac Kings, who were parked in the same area when they were here last year.
The DeSoto Owners Association was also parked in the same spot as last year. The Classic Fords of the Carolinas club was parked along Pit Road.
More DeSotos will probably show up tomorrow if Mother Nature cooperates, which she is supposed to do.
The garbage truck smoker and Airstream trailer parked in the infield.
Carolina Classic Pontiac club.
The Carolina Plymouth Owner's Association.
Southeastern GM Toyz.
I zoomed in on the Concord water tower, my landmark reference for where I was parked.
The track scoreboard.
First Turn Towers condo complex.
Zooming past the Orange Field, I could see something being built. It almost looks like the grandstands are being extended. But I have no idea.
The small building on the left side of the photo above is the Infield Care Center. The building next to it is The Paddock Club event facility.
I stitched the previous two pics together to make a decent panorama of turn 4 and Pit Road.
The long building seen in the photo above is one of the Showcase Pavilions, in this case, where the Roush displays were located. A map on the speedway's website called this the NASCAR Cup Series Garage.
The other long building seen in the background of the photo above behind Pit Road is the other Showcase Pavilion, also referred to as the Xfinity Garage.
Walking through the grandstands gave me a view of the parking lot in front of the speedway where the AACA show will be held tomorrow morning. I could see a Willys and a Plymouth Superbird have already arrived for the show.
I switched lenses and headed back down to the track to check out some of the car clubs. The Mercury Zephyr (L) and Ford Fairmont (R) were parked with the Ford Owners Association club.
The Zephyr is a 1978 model that has been highly modified.
Motivation comes from a Procharged LS swap.
1963 Ford Galaxie.
I tried to get another picture of the 1958 Edsel Citation I saw earlier. But my camera didn't want to cooperate.
Power comes from a 410 CID V8 that makes 345 hp.
A loud rumbling suddenly got my attention.
I headed to Pit Road to catch this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro arriving.
A Blown 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.
I did manage to capture a few seconds of it idling, which was nice. Click on the image above and press the play icon.
The Camaro was part of the Tach Twisters club, which features heavily modified vehicles.
Blowers sticking through hoods seems to be a common trait with this club.
A blown Chevrolet Vega.
"Vega on Viagra" sounds like an accurate description.
I headed back toward the Orange Field to do some more exploring and came across a replica of the car used in the Blues Brothers movie.
1978 Chevrolet Corvette, asking $8,500.
It looks like a Pace Car, even though it wasn't identified as such.
1953 Lincoln Capri hardtop coupe, asking $9,800.
The car doesn't look bad at all. But the "motor needs work" description could get interesting.
Even so, the car is said to run and drive, and comes with a lot of new parts. The 2-door hardtop coupe was Lincoln's most popular body style for 1953, with 12,916 made that year.
Power comes from a 317 CID V8 that makes 205 hp. It would be interesting to know what mechanical work is needed.
1964 Dodge Dart GT hardtop coupe, no price listed.
