November 23, 2010: I was home in Altoona for the Thanksgiving holiday. Pennsylvania can be quite cold in November. I awoke Wednesday morning to find this.
The all-new 2004 XJ8 was now equipped with air suspension at all 4 corners. Unfortunately, this is what happens when the system develops a leak.
The car's instrument cluster was displaying the appropriate message.
This illustrates the problem. I don't have to deal with really cold temperatures in Georgia. On this morning, it was cold enough for the right front suspension airbag to develop a slow leak.
Once the car was started and warmed up, the resulting expansion sealed the leak and I was fine. Unfortunately, that worked until the car sat out overnight in the cold.
February 21, 2011: Drastic times call for drastic measures. I was home in Pennsylvania again in February when it is always really cold ! I had to be creative trying to keep the air suspension inflated overnight.
I found a space heater in the garage, and was hoping that if I aimed it toward the right front suspension air bag, I could keep the suspension inflated. Believe it or not, it worked.
