  • It looks like a small rock hit the center of the right front fog lamp lens. Oddly enough, the bulb is still good.

  • I put off ordering a new fog lamp assembly for a while, only because it costs around $100. But since I was fixing the XK8's other issues, I decided to finally replace the lens.

  • The fog lens assembly can be through the access opening. Three bolts hold the assembly in place, one of which can be seen in the photo above. The other two fasteners are on the opposite side of the assembly.

  • I'm doing all of this with the car on the ground which essentially makes this a blind repair, (it would be A LOT easier with the car in the air !). This means I can't see two of the three fasteners. So I put the fog lamp assembly on the ground in front of the car in the same position it would be while in the car. This will help me find the fasteners.

  • The lens assembly is now loose inside the bumper cover. At this point, I discovered that it won't fit through the opening with the front tire in that position.

  • But the easiest solution was to turn the front wheel the opposite direction. This gave me more than enough room to remove the lens assembly.

  • The installation instructions typically seen in a factory shop manual tell the tech to "reverse the removal procedure." This is a lot easier than it sounds when working with a blind repair. But after more wrist twisting and bending, the new lens went into place.
