Read MoreMarch 2, 2009: We moved from Columbia, Missouri to Athens, Georgia in January 2009. Naturally, not long after we arrived, Mother Nature picked this day to drop an unusually large amount of snow on the city. A total of 7 inches of snow fell overnight March 1 - 2. But since the ground never really freezes here, most of it melted almost immediately. Being from Pennsylvania originally, I was the only person in the apartment complex who had a snow shovel.
April 12, 2009: We took every opportunity we could to explore our new surroundings. On this day, we stumbled upon an old cemetery along Morton Road in Athens. Everyone buried within was named "Morton." And just down the road was an intersection with Morton Farms Road. I'm guessing a family named "Morton" was significant to the history of this particular area.
