With my day of sightseeing over, I found myself some dinner and headed back to the hotel to finish the day the way I always do, with a walk on the beach.
I decided to try my luck again with low-light photography to see if I could make any progress. Some of the pics actually turned out better than expected.
This was the night of the full moon, meaning if the clouds cooperated, I would have a lot of light available, even at 8 PM.
I tried to keep the camera as steady as I could and started playing with settings.
Not too bad, all things considered.
A 1 second exposure and maximum ISO of 3200 produced a bright picture.
I cut the ISO in half to 1600 which made the picture a little darker.
I continued turning the ISO down, this time to 800. The camera took in enough light and produced a decent picture.
I turned the ISO down to 400, which made the picture darker. But the focus seemed to be ok with a 1 second exposure.
The picture became quite dark at ISO 200.
It seemed like ISO of 800 and a 1 second exposure produced a decent picture.
Not bad for a point-and-shoot with a small sensor.
I won't be winning any awards anytime soon. But I'm happy with the results.
At least I was able to take a decent picture repeatedly, which was definitely an improvement.
I took this same picture the previous night, but wanted to take it again while varying the camera settings.
With the ISO at 800 and a 1 second exposure, the picture turned out quite bright. And thanks to a table, the camera remained steady enough for the picture to be in focus.
The clouds obscured the moon which removed a lot of the available light.
I headed back to the beach around 11:30 PM to try a few more night shots for no reason other than I like the beach.
Truth be told, this was more of an excuse to be on the beach than to take pictures.
But even so, the camera did ok, especially considering its small sensor and the fact that the person behind it doesn't really know what he's doing.
