November 25: Jekyll Island Museum . . .
Read MoreThe Jekyll Island Museum serves as the history center of the island and its inhabitants. The word "museum" normally conjures an image of a Smithsonian-like place where stories are told through a large number of detailed exhibits. But in this case, those "detailed exhibits" are the places within the Historic District, itself. The best way to describe the history of the island and the club era is to actually get visitors up close and personal on a tour through the district. In other words, the bulk of the museum's role involves being out of the museum building and among the actual landmarks described therein. I walked extensively through the Historic District during my last visit which. I stopped today specifically to go through the museum building itself.
