July 8, 2018: Greensboro Highway in Watkinsville, Georgia . . .
Read MoreI headed into downtown Watkinsville, Georgia for today's ride. The plan was to make a giant loop like I usually do on two of my favorite country roads in this area. From downtown Watkinsville, I headed south on Georgia Route 15. A right turn on Astondale Road followed by another right turn onto Colham Ferry Road would bring me back into town.
Georgia Route 15 is known as the Greensboro Highway in this part of the state, and is one of the two previously mentioned favorites. Like the name implies, traveling south on this road from Watkinsville will eventually lead motorists to the city of Greensboro. And while that may be a good goal for me in the future, I didn't go nearly that far today. Even so, I did pull over a couple of times during my four miles for a breather.
The Greensboro Highway, and all of Georgia Route 15 that I have explored to date, is a good example of a great "country" road. It's only two lanes, but more than makes up for that by passing through a lot of sparsely populated territory. This is my default route to Jekyll Island for this very reason.
