Like all good things, this wonderful getaway did have to end. We headed out to say goodbye to the beach and snap a few more pics of the boardwalk to the beach before heading home.

The boardwalk to the beach is located directly behind the pool.

It's easier to see just how long this walkway is in the daylight. The photo above looks from the top of the stairs down the first straightaway.

The walkway passes through a heavily wooded area that separates the beach from the hotel.

The second long straightaway of boardwalk has a cutout and bench built in.

The beach is visible from the small cutout in the walkway. But it's still a good distance away.

I was able to zoom in on the small Southern Live Oak tree below the platform.

This is the same tree I tried to photograph when we first arrived.

Daylight made picture-taking much easier today.

There never seems to be a crowd.

We never encountered a crowd of any kind during this visit.

I didn't look at the tide maps. But judging by the distance to the water, I'd say that we are pretty close to low tide.

The beach is very wide during low tide.

And with that, our time on the island had come to an end. It was now time to return to Athens and the real world.

I always enjoy my trips to Jekyll Island. Each visit continues to remind me why this is my favorite place on earth at the moment. Danita's first visit to the island was highlighted by the complete lack of people and great weather. This was a wonderful experience for both of us.

We will definitely be back, hopefully with bicycles in tow next time !
