The moon was still visible when the cloud cover retreated.
We didn't see the actual sun. But the colors in the sky were great !
It was time to head back to the hotel and prepare to face the day. The photos above and below look north along the sand dunes from the end of the boardwalk.
Zooming in on the sand dunes.
I believe the designs in the sand were courtesy of the wind, which was quite strong, especially last night when we arrived.
I tried to take a few pics to stitch together to create larger panorama shots.
Two-picture panorama.
Another two-picture panorama.
Another two-picture panorama.
We headed back to the hotel and were able to check out the densely wooded area through which the boardwalk passes.
The densely wooded area is actually much larger than you would expect.
The photo above is of what looks like a small Southern Live Oak tree. Much larger examples are found all over the island.
I refer to this a densely wooded area for good reason !
It looks like someone carved just enough room to build the boardwalk without disturbing any of the surrounding foliage.
This boardwalk ended up being much longer than I expected. The photo above shows what I call the middle section of the long boardwalk.
The boardwalk connects the hotel to the beach.
The entrance to the boardwalk is just behind the hotel pool.
And so began our first day on Jekyll Island ! I had plenty of places to show first-time visitor Danita on the schedule for today. Time to get the day started !
