The Yarrow Coronation Gold plants continue to do their thing. The yellow blooms look great !
They've been in the ground for around 2 months. Not only do the blooms look good, there are a lot of them.
The Happy Returns Daylilies are doing well. The key is to keep the deer from snacking on them.
Thank you Liquid Fence ! It smells really, really awful, but it works.
I have two Tiny Dessert Asiatic Lilies in the planters on my front porch. Not sure why the lily on the left is leaning so much . . .
The flowers are beautiful despite being horizontal.
Tiny Dessert Asiatic Lilies.
Tiny Dessert Asiatic Lilies.
A leaning, but beautiful Tiny Dessert Asiatic Lily.
I see a single bloom on the Frostproof Gardenia.
I've got a bunch of blooms on the shrub next to the garage. My neighbor tells me that this is also some form of Gardenia, the exact variety of which is unknown, (it was here when I moved in).
The word "expansion" has been coming up a lot lately. Yet another expansion is on the agenda for today.
The area on the far right in the photo above next to the Cleveland Select Flowering Pear Tree has been on my radar for a while now. As usual, Lowe's was happy to oblige.
I came home from Lowe's with three new Crape Myrtles. L - R: Crimson Red, Purple Magic, Plum Magic
Lowe's can be a dangerous place, especially when the word "clearance" is used. I found a Persian Lilac on sale for 50% off ! I figured I'll find a place for it somewhere.
Since the Persian Lilac calls for part sun, I believe the area formerly occupied by a really dead Japanese Maple Tree in the back yard would work quite well. Something happened to the maple over the winter, and I pulled the tree earlier this year.
I mentioned earlier that the area in between the pear and palm trees in the rear of the front yard has been on my radar for a while.
This is a decent-sized space, definitely large enough to accommodate the Crape Myrtles.
Each Crape Myrtle should grow to around 10 feet tall and anywhere from 4 to 6 feet wide. So I should have plenty of room here for them.
I added some black mulch to provide a good contrast.
I made a few passes in the back yard with the bag attached to the lawnmower. There are enough enough leaves, pine straw, and other debris to make a bunch of my homemade mulch and completely fill in the area.
And this is the finished product.
I'm happy with the results . . . I think.
Something about the triangular shape for the new Crape Myrtles strikes me as odd. I'll have to let all this sink in and think about it.
I see my neighbor had a giant branch come down from one of the trees on the property line.
The tree in question hasn't looked real healthy to me since I've lived here.
My Pokeweed Paradise in the back yard continues to grow quiet well.
The flowers they produce are quite beautiful. They are also toxic to humans, pets, and livestock.
I guess the word "weed" in the name Pokeweed refers to how voraciously they grow.
