  • In addition to blooming flowers, the arrival of spring also means the arrival of pollen, which has started to float through the air. I've heard people talk about pollen, and how much it affects them. I, thankfully, fall on the lighter side of that scenario. But I do notice a few symptoms here and there when conditions are right.

  • On this day, I discovered that encountering pollen in Georgia is very different than what I have experienced in Pennsylvania. My coworkers tell me that this is the time of year when everything outside turns a shade of pale yellow. I can confirm.

  • I headed outside on this day into the pollen to cut the grass and decided to take a stroll through the yard to see what was happening. The crape myrtle beside the garage is also waking up. I am looking forward to seeing it flower this summer.

  • It's taken the Sweetgum tree around 3 weeks to go from bare to fully green, which is a pretty remarkable transformation.

  • I looked a little closer and discovered that this azalea is actually a series of several individual plants, half pink and half white, that have all grown together. The pink half appears to wake up before the white half.

  • I see I have another redbud tree. That's nice, except it's growing in a weird spot in among the azaleas.

  • Just like the Sweetgum tree, the privacy hedges went from bare to fully green in about 3 weeks time.

  • I headed into the backyard to see what I could see. The area seen in the photo above in between the landscape timers - which have become a shade of pale yellow like everything else outside - and back porch looks like a great location to put a patio or something similar.

  • I seem to have developed a thing for panorama shots, only because it's a convenient way to create a large picture when your camera lacks pixels. I hoisted the camera over my head and took a few pics to try and stitch together.

  • The yard looks much better without the rusty fence.

  • Two-picture backyard panorama. I should probably move the daffodils and bluebells out of the middle of the grass.

  • I fired up the new lawnmower and cut the grass. I then broke out the weed trimmer and did some edging along the driveway.

  • And just like I had speculated last year, I did a lot of walking cutting this yard.
