January 29, 2014: Today I began a three-part upgrade with regard to overall organization and storage in my garage. Part one involved moving my garage Craftsman tool box out of the utility room into the main garage area.
The second part of the project involved adding another Gladiator wall storage cabinet.
Last year, I installed a Gladiator cabinet next to the garage door. The fact that it was on clearance made me wonder if Lowe's was discontinuing the Gladiator brand. Thankfully, the answer was no.
I got to work assembling the basic frame of the cabinet.
The Gladiator storage components allow for two different ways of mounting the unit to the wall. I chose the direct mount, and bolted the back of the cabinet to the garage wall.
This location works well with where I placed my large tool box, and with the existing shelves already in place.
With the back of the cabinet mounted to the wall, the sides can be attached and secured.
I attached the doors to the cabinet to finish the installation. Now all I have to do is clean up a bit.
The new wall cabinet is mounted next to my large tool box.
The cabinet next to the garage door on the far left of the photo above contains some gardening supplies and things like car wax. The new cabinet next to the tool box will hold automotive chemicals like oil, coolant, transmission fluid, etc.
February 1, 2014: I addressed the third part of this project a few days later. Part three involved mounting my parts storage bins to the wall of my utility room where the Craftsman tool box used to be. The upper storage bin seen in the photo above is probably 25 years old, but the lower bin is new.
The area looked better after the aforementioned "cleaning things up."
My garage storage upgrades are complete.
What started out as a carport with three bare walls has been transformed into an actual garage with lots of storage.
